Zelenograd is located in one of the most picturesque areas near Moscow: 20 km Northwest of the metropolitan ring highway, at the 37th kilometre of Leningradsky highway, 15 km away from the International Airport Sheremetyevo. For creating the architectural ensemble of Zelenograd a team of designers, architects and builders was awarded the State Premium. The principle of free planning and using relief features was laid in the foundation of the building-up plan. Zelenograd is a centre of electronic industry. Here scientific-industrial enterprises possessing high scientific potential and modern technologies are concentrated. Among them are: the Public Corporation “Component Factory” – a manufacturer of space microelectronic equipment; the Public Corporation Angstrem – the biggest Russian enterprise in the area of scientific development and manufacture of microelectronic products; the Public Corporation “SRI of molecular electronics” and Micron plant – one of the biggest Russian enterprises in the area of developing and manufacturing domestically produced integrated circuits with the highest level of complexity; the Public Corporation Elma – the biggest manufacturer of materials for electronics; the Public Corporation Logic – the biggest manufacturer of gas produce from air-separation products in the Moscow region; the Public Corporation Quantum – a manufacturer of computer and television equipment; the Public Corporation Elax – a leader among CIS enterprises in the area of development and manufacture of pecking motors for special electrical equipment; the Public Corporation Elion – a manufacturer of special general-purpose technological equipment for the production of integrated circuits; the Public Corporation Stella – a manufacturer of vacuum-tube electric and medical devices; SRI The Scientific Centre; the Public Corporation “SRI Zenith”; the open-ended joint-stock company “SRI of precision engineering”; SRI of micro-devices; SRI of physical problems; the Public Corporation Elpa; the close-ended joint-stock company “SRI of material authority”. In 1997, in order to provide for the growth of electronics output volumes, preservation of the intellectual potential and stabilization of the economic position of electronic-industry enterprises, a special-status territorial-industrial zone was legally established on the basis of electronic-industry enterprises in the town of Zelenograd (a Special zone). Preferential taxation was introduced on this territory. Small business is rapidly developing in the district. 2500 small enterprises with 30 thousand employees are known for their stability. They account for 47 percent of tax proceeds to the local budget. In the year 1999 the Technology yard for small enterprises will be put into operation. On its territory small scientific-industrial and innovation companies will be located. Implementation of this project will create 3000 new jobs.
